The Skid Row Housing Trust is trying to make over the low-income, single room occupancy Pershing Hotel into something a little more modern: "The group is proposing an overhaul of each unit in the dilapidated building that would replace the rooms with modern studio apartments" and they want to add "new commercial and green space, in addition to medical staff, mental health professionals and case managers." There's money and everything, but they're running into bureaucratic issues stemming from the death of the redevelopment agencies. [blogdowntown, image via]
