The federal Environmental Protection Agency reached a $14 million deal with three companies to clean up two contaminated superfund sites in Torrance, the Associated Press reports. Groundwater has been sullied for decades thanks to a DDT factory on Normandie, and a separate plastic factory on Del Amo (pictured). The dirty water from the two factories mixed to create a toxic stew, which will be treated by a new plant--pending final court approval--that will take about a year and a half to build. [AP]
