FAIRFAX: It was a sad day when Cobras & Matadors shuttered their Beverly Boulevard space (oh, the days of lugging cheap wine there). Owner Steven Arroyo is back with a new concept, moving from Spanish to Mexican with La Otra Taqueria Escuela (he also operates the nearby Escuela). Look for an opening next month.
BROADWAY: More hipsters for downtown. Eater reports that the owners of Brooklyn hot spots Five Leaves and Nights & Weekends will be operating one of the downtown Ace's new restaurants. Wow, that Ace is really happening.
EAST HOLLYWOOD: The former Little Temple on Santa Monica Boulevard and Virgil is now The Virgil, a club and bar (serving Central and South American-inspired cocktails) with live music and dancing --the ribbon is getting cut two weeks from tomorrow. The space is open Tuesday to Saturday night, but the live music area operates only Thursday to Saturday night.
WEST HOLLYWOOD: Pomodoro restaurant on Santa Monica Boulevard, next to Target, has shuttered. Eater says another eatery was clamoring for the spot and Pomodoro "was ready to move on." It seems right that there would be demand for this space as 184 apartments are being constructed across the street.
