Santa Clarita's Annexation Binge Cannot, Will Not Be Stopped

New, 18 comments

Last week, Santa Clarita made official the annexation of Copperstone, Elsmere Canyon, and Soledad Commons--as approved by the Local Agency Formation Commission of Los Angeles County back in April. The Santa Clarita Valley Signal reports "The three annexations bring about 1,284 residents into the city and increases its boundary by about 890 acres." The three annexations are among seven total annexations expected by December. The final four areas up for annexation are North Copper Hill in Saugus (2,470 acres with 9,500 residents), Vista Canyon/Fair Oaks/Jakes Way (2,440 acres of land with 14,900 residents), Norland Road in Canyon Country (205 acres), and South Sand Canyon in Canyon Country (690 acres and 40 residents). When all the annexations are said and done, the population of Santa Clarita will reach 200,000 residents, making it the third-largest city in Los Angeles County.
