The State Senate yesterday approved a bill that would "penalize home buyers, investors and developers if they fail to clean up dilapidated homes quickly," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. SB 1472, by Sen. Fran Pavley of Agoura Hills, would attempt to reduce foreclosure-caused blight by allowing 60 days to make repairs before local governments can assess fines. Fines for failing to act could reach $1,000 a day. The State Assembly still has to approve the bill. [SFGate]
