1926 Whitley Heights House Designed By an MGM Art Director

New, 34 comments

A framed Metropolis poster seems like a good omen in a 1920s house and indeed the owners seem to have taken good care of this 1926 number in Whitley Heights. The three-bedroom, two and a half-bathroom was "designed & built," according to the listing, by MGM and Paramount art director Harry McAfee (before he worked on such gems as Married Bachelor and Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble). Highlights include terra cotta tiles, wrought iron work, stained glass, a cool corner fireplace, a two-story beamed living room, original tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, a fireplace and balcony in the master, and a pool. It's in the Whitley Heights Historic Preservation Overlay Zone and the listing says it's eligible for Mills Act tax breaks. Asking price is $1.425 million.
