Every year for 48 years now, the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts has designers from around SoCal make over a significant and grand old house--last year, we saw an overhaul of a 1927 Paul Williams design in La Canada Flintridge. The organization sells tours and uses the proceeds to support arts education and classical music programs. This year's house, open to the public right now, is in La Canda Flintridge and was designed by John W. Byers, who's known for his Spanish Colonial Revivals. The Robbins House was built in 1927 as the winter home "for Hunter Savidge Robbins, his wife Margaret K. Robbins, their four children and one male French-born servant," according to press materials (apparently Mr. Robbins had a Michigan-based lumber fortune and also owned a theater or theaters). After the Robbins separated in the forties, the missus moved in here with her new husband, and there have been two other owners since. The latest owners bought the house in 1996 (they'll get first dibs on buying the furnishings when the fundraiser is over, then the sale will open to the public). The estate has eight bedrooms and bathrooms in 6,429 square feet. The house will be open through May 13. Tickets are $30-40 and you can buy them here. You'll find a full list of the designers involved down below.
