Touring Richard Seltzer's Sheller-Borunda Residence

New, 18 comments

It's home tour season and this past weekend we were back on the Westside for the AIA/LA's Venice Vista tour. We visited three of the five houses on display (we toured Ortiz Mexia Projects's Appleton Way house a few weeks back and one house did not allow photos)--now let's get to it!

The Sheller-Borunda Residence, designed by Richard Seltzer Designs, is a remodel of an old ho-hum bungalow in Mar Vista. In the revamped version, the open plan public spaces are all oriented around that colorful "central hearth," with the private spaces tucked away (but with glass walls for plenty of light). According to the AIA/LA, "The quality of light shifts throughout the course of the day, from the wash of even morning light through recessed skylights, to the blue of the sky deepening over the treetops as the interior lighting illuminates shifting ceiling planes."
