Here's one of the lesser-discussed pieces of information contained in plans for the Purple Line subway extension: it's going to take out three small arts institutions on the Miracle Mile. The relatively new Architecture + Design Museum space, the Edward Cella Art + Architecture gallery, and the Steve Turner Contemporary gallery will all be razed to make room for staging and for the deposit of "gassy soils and possible fossil finds." While we're sure Metro has done its homework on the best staging location, an op-ed in the LA Times today argues that it doesn't have to be this way. [LAT]
