Trouble at the Adventurer's House

There's a preservation situation down in Laguna at the 1937 Hangover (aka Halliburton) House, designed by William Alexander Levy for the adventurer Richard Halliburton. While the homeowners want to restore the house, they also want to demolish a lot, and apparently don't have a detailed plan for their work. Meanwhile, the house's back story is straight out of a Wes Anderson movie--its long-time owner Zolita Scott (who died in 2010) inherited it from her parents, "Wallace Thompson Scott, a war general and Zolite Elizabeth, a ballerina – who in 1942 purchased the property on a whim for $9,000 after Halliburton was lost at sea."
