First Time on the Market For "Autumn Leaves" Pianist Roger Williams's Mid-Century Home in Encino

New, 22 comments

According to its listing, this Encino mid-century modern is the former residence of pianist Roger Williams. The easy listening icon, whose hits include "Autumn Leaves" (the only piano instrumental to reach number one on Billboard's pop music chart) and "Born Free," passed away in October 2011 at 87, and now his home has passed onto the market for the first time since being built in 1966. While the 4,960 square foot ranch looks pretty jazzy on the outside, inside it's a different tune altogether--a very melancholy one indeed. However, the place also appears to have excellent bones and it's not too hard to envision it becoming a Julius Shulman-worthy showplace after a bit of tweaking. Located on a .45 acre lot in the Royal Woods neighborhood, the four-bedroom, four-bath property's features include terrazzo floors, walls of glass, two fireplaces, a recording studio, an indoor sauna, swimming pool, sport court, two-car garage, and Valley views. A trust sale, it's listed at $1.6 million.
