Until this month, the storied Groundlings Theatre on Melrose was working with a set that was built in the late nineties for an FX show called Instant Comedy With the Groundlings--and we all know what comedy looked like in the nineties. The theater got a thorough freshening in late March and early April, with a new set design (fabricated in a Downtown warehouse), new doors, new carpet, a new band pit, and new seats with new commemorative plates (the old ones, for legends including Phil Hartman, were looking rather scuffed). The look is now a little more 2012, with contemporary touches like cherrywood and concrete. If you want to check it out yourself, the Groundlings Zombie Apocalypse show is closing this weekend--showtimes and ticket info are right here.
