Over the weekend, Google temporarily introduced the NES-supported Google Maps Quest View (to troubleshoot, just blow on the cartridge). The 8-bit Quest version of the world featured little pixelated trees, rivers, and mountains in the style of the video game Dragon Quest, plus a handful of landmarks--there were a couple of Google guys in Venice; there was a Hollywood Sign, naturally, in the Hollywood Hills; and, up in the Pacific Palisades, there was a little 8-bit Eames House, aka Case Study House No. 8. The Eames, designed by and for Charles and Ray Eames, is having a hell of a year, even for such a famous house--its living room was moved to LACMA, it's readying for a big restoration, and it received a widely-watched visit from Ice Cube.
