Reburial at La Plaza

New, 4 comments

Downtown's La Plaza de Cultura y Artes was built partially on a Native American burial ground and remains of 118 people were dug up during construction (work briefly halted and the remains were sent for safekeeping to the Natural History Museum). The Downtown News reports that 18 months later, the remains are now being reburied in the museum's garden and "The future of the site will include a memorial and access to the area for spiritual ceremonies." La Plaza has all kinds of non-remain-related issues since it opened a year ago, including a leadership upheaval. [Downtown News, image via]
