HOLLYWOOD: The former Ye Coach & Horses on Sunset is now The Pikey (above). There's still a British feel evident, thanks to partners Jared Meisler and Sean MacPherson, who've given the place a warm design. Former Spotted Pig executive chef Ralph Johnson is behind the wheel.
HOLLYWOOD: Cashing in on the food truck craze, Calle Taco is opening a brick and mortar that features a taco truck embedded in the wall. The restaurant may open next week on Hollywood Blvd. and will feature tacos al pastor--pork they marinate in chili and infuse with pineapple.
WEST HOLLYWOOD: A much-needed breakfast option has opened at the busy corner of Fairfax and Santa Monica Blvd. Occupying a long-empty storefront, Mocafe serves a good hot egg sandwich to go, with, of course, coffee, organic tea, fresh juices and smoothies. "Sandwiches and salads take over at lunch, but a small selection of hot plates carry the cafe into the early evening," Eater reports.
CULVER CITY: Royal/T Gallery and Cafe, that cool joint on the edge of Downtown with poppy Japanese art and waitresses in weird costumes, is closing or moving in August--just in time for the Expo Line to start running a block away. Something tells us there may be other restauranteurs clamoring for the space.
