Historic Metropolitan Community Getting New Los Feliz Digs

New, 9 comments

The Metropolitan Community Chuch opened in LA in 1968 as one of the nation's first LGBT-welcoming churches. The denomination, now with 320 congregations in 32 countries, remains based in LA, and church officials announced yesterday that they recently purchased a new home base in Los Feliz that will triple their current space. Currently located at a 6,300 square foot church on Franklin, MCC will relocate to a nearly 19,000 square foot church on nearby Prospect. MCC paid $1,630,000 for the Prospect building--they have extensive plans for their new Spanish Colonial home, which was built in 1920 and had a second building added to it 30 years later. Currently, "the property includes a 350-seat sanctuary, small theater, chapel, a banquet hall with a commercial kitchen and numerous offices, classrooms and conference rooms," according to a release. The Prospect church currently houses the Mount Hollywood Congregational Church, which is moving to a new location in 2013.
