Touring Martin Leon & Cintia Hanada's Shell House in Venice

New, 5 comments

A couple weekends ago, we hit six of the nine houses on the Venice Modern Home Tour. We've already made some notes on decor (Aniston! Turtles! Corbu!), so now on to the architecture.

Architects Martin Leon and Cintia Hanada and builder Alisal Builders Corp. gave the Shell House a beachy vibe with its mix of concrete, drywall, and mahogany, although it actually sits inland a bit (near Abbot Kinney and Vencie Blvd.). According to the Venice Modern Home Tour site, "It embraces Venice’s eclecticism, containing a blend Japanese and Mediterranean influences." The windows and skylights in the house make the space nice and sunny, but also keep energy use in check, with the help of solar panels.
