The Department of Transportation has given Boyle Heights a number of bus stop-adjacent "lean bars," Streetsblog reports. The idea is to provide transit amenities for bus stops that don't have benches or shelters because of money or space constraints--riders would ostensibly lean on the bars while they wait for the bus. But as Streetsblog points out, the lean bars aren't finding many fans. For one, some are placed in direct sunlight, some aren't even near a bus stop, and many assume they're bike racks.
