Inside Simon Storey's 15 Foot Wide Eel's Nest in Echo Park

New, 29 comments

This past weekend, we visited three of the houses on Design East of La Brea's Echo Park House Tour (we'd already visited the Kevin Wronske-designed Dick and Jane houses last year). We've done our drive-by design judgments, now on to the architecture.

We first saw the tall, skinny Eel's Nest last summer, when architect/occupant Simon Storey listed it for $599,000. He's since decided he likes the place too much to part with it and now lives and runs his practice out of the three-story, 15 foot wide house. Altogether, the whole thing is only 960 square feet on a 780 square foot lot, but it gets a lot of light through its giant windows and skylights, and it's topped with a very pleasant roofdeck with massive Echo Park views.
