Expo Line Opens to La Cienega April 28, Take a Ride With Us

Updated 2:15 pm: This morning, Mayor Villaraigosa and County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky took members of the press for a ride on the Expo Line, from La Cienega to Seventh/Metro Downtown, and drum roll please, we have an opening date: service will start to La Cienega on April 28. Huzzah! The line is expected to open all the way to Culver City sometime this summer. Expo has been delayed several times, most recently due to issues with its junction with the Blue Line in Downtown. The April date misses the LA Times Festival of Books at USC by just a smidge (it starts April 21), but what's one event when LA is going to have a rail line to the west(ish)side for the first time in decades? Expo will eventually stretch all the way to Fourth and Colorado in Santa Monica, sometime around 2016. Update: Here's a video as the train emerges from the Flower St. trench headed west:
