The LA Board of Public Works has canceled plans to build a plant in Perris that could turn trash into fuel and fertilizer; it would have been the first of its kind in the country and had been in the works since 2007. LA has a goal to get to "zero waste" by 2025 and its Renew LA plan "envisions building seven conversion technology sites that would use heat, chemicals or biological processes to process trash." The Bureau of Sanitation is now starting negotiation to build a heat-based conversion plant. [SGVT]
