A 10 unit building in Frogtown, aka Elysian Valley, has gotten a little gentrification makeover--the area is no Arts District (and these apartments are no century-old lofts), but it is adjacent to Echo Park, Silver Lake, and Atwater Village, all of which have gotten mighty pricey over the last several years. Is this the beginning of big things for the riverside 'hood? The building, marketed as the Frogtown Apartments, is up for sale for $1.8 million. Eight of the apartments, built in 1964, have gotten upgrades designed by Design Vidal (the building has two one-bedrooms and eight two-bedrooms), and the whole building was renovated with new plumbing and electrical last year. A brochure for the property highlights the location, noting proximity to the LA River Greenway and explaining that "Crime rates today in Elysian Valley are on par with such neighborhoods as Brentwood. Today one commonly finds whole families, elderly couples and young lovers walking along the Los Angeles River path at night."
