The San Pedro Chamber of Commerce is studying two proposals to "free up" and "make more affordable" public parking in downtown, in preparation for summer openings of the "USS Iowa battleship attraction, the artist marketplace Crafted and civic light opera shows coming to the Warner Grand Theatre." One proposal under study would reduce parking fees to 50 cents an hour and make parking free on Saturdays; the second would remove parking meters altogether. According to the DB, Councilmember Joe Buscaino, who represents San Pedro, "supports both efforts," and the proposals are "currently moving on parallel tracks through the city transportation evaluation process."
