Newport Beach is reviewing a plan that would remove 60 fire pits at city beaches due to health and safety concerns, according to the OC Register. ("Big Corona State Beach has 27 concrete fire rings, and the Balboa Pier area has 33 rings.") The Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission already voted 4-3 to remove the rings, and the city council will consider the removal tomorrow. If approved, the city will still require permits from the California Coastal Commission to remove the pits. [OC Register]
