Metro Red Line Subway Stations Getting Fancy New Hats

New, 48 comments

Work started on January 28 on a new canopy for the Pershing Square subway station, according to a construction notice from Metro (pdf); work should wrap up in the summer, Brigham Yen reports. All the Red Line stops will get the same Jetsons-like canopies, Metro tells us, and they're checking to see if all the underground stations on the Purple and Gold lines will receive them as well. Posting on the Behance Network, architecture firm STV Incorporated describes their coverings as featuring "elliptical laminated panelized glass roofs with a steel ring beam and steel structure providing weather protection, lighting, new iconic identity element, and information systems."
