Do You Have to Feed a Broken Meter?

New, 14 comments

A bill's been introduced in Sacramento that would allow California drivers to park free at busted meters, the Los Angeles Times reports. Citing inconsistent municipal rules, AAA pushed the legislation to create standard parking procedures for all malfunctioning meters. Currently, you can get ticketed in LA if you don't feed a broken meter that accepts credit cards and coins; these meters even have stickers on them that tell drivers they have to pay, broken or not (you're off the hook for older meters that only accept coins). But how does a broken meter acknowledge that it's been paid? [LA Times]
