101 Freeway Park Wait

New, 33 comments

With no date for start, completion, or first soccer ball kicked onto the freeway below, the news on the proposed park atop the 101 Freeway in Downtown LA has been slow to come. Urbanist Bill Fulton attended a panel last Thursday to discuss how we can get the 101 Freeway Park built. Panelists suggested starting small, with only a tiny piece of the freeway covered; avoid Caltrans by not building anything on the freeway cap but a park; using the unused air space above the park to transfer development potential (floor area ratio) to nearby lots; and combine the freeway park project with the Union Station Master Plan development.
