DOWNTOWN: The AIA/LA is holding a series of mayoral candidate fora, talking with the field (Jan Perry, Austin Beutner, Kevin James, Wendy Greuel, and Eric Garcetti) about architecture, urban design, and planning--our favorite things. (They sent out some sample questions, including "Who is the steward of the LA built environment?" and "What responsibility does the private developer have to the public realm of our city?) The series will be moderated by City Planning Commission President Bill Roschen and LA Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne, and it kicks off tomorrow night at the LAPD headquarters with Jan Perry. The talks are free and open to the public, but you will need to register here. [Curbed Inbox]
CARLSBAD: On a less serious note--it's Crabzilla! This giant Japanese spider crab was on his way to SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium's new Claws exhibit when he stopped by LEGOLAND to terrorize LEGO New York City in the theme park's Miniland USA (where cities are replicated on a 1:20 scale). Now we'd like to see a giant scallop slurp on Portland, please. [Curbed Inbox]
