Preservation Watch: Neutra's Mariners Medical

New, 4 comments

What is it about Richard Neutra buildings that people just seem to love to destroy? Today we have a case down in Newport Beach in which real estate investor John Bral was found "gutting the interior" of the Mariners Medical Arts building, built in 1963 (he's made serious alterations in the past too). Architect John Linnert happen to stop by and notice construction crews at the building in January, so he reported the matter to city planning stuff. It turns out Bral did not have permits for the work (he even installed a gas line without them), so the city issued a stop-work order. Bral has since applied for permits. [LAT, image via OC Register]
