Not wanting to be left out of the mad redevelopment action on La Brea, this abandoned (and kind of terrifying) commercial building a couple blocks south of Santa Monica Boulevard is having some major work done--a tipster sent us the "before" picture after the jump, and now we know what 960 North La Brea will look like when the makeover is finished. On the corner diagonally across from Best Buy (in the WeHo Target complex), the refurbished building will have 11,500 square feet of retail space and 33,000 square feet of office space in a total of five stories, says Wehoville. In addition to that, a new building is going up just south of this one that will add 8,600 square feet of additional retail and three levels of parking.
The 1933 building at La Brea and Romaine has been home to a car dealership, an art gallery, and a framing studio over the years, and more recently hosted art installations from Mr. Brainwash, the Banksy protege. While no tenants have been found for the finished space, the developer hopes to lease the revamped space to creative or production companies.
