LB Airport's Rediscovered WPA Mosaics Are Terminally Lovely

New, 18 comments

In addition to the fancy new concourse unveiled this week, travelers going through Long Beach Airport are now able to enjoy the fantastic floor murals made by mosaic artist Grace Clements back in 1941 but hidden for years underneath boring carpet. Uncovered during the terminal's recent restoration process, the ceramic-tile mosaics created by the then-28-year-old Clements, thanks to the WPA, celebrate Long Beach's ties to the fields of communication, aviation, and shipping, as well as scenes of nature.
