ARTS DISTRICT: Work has begun transforming an old glass manufacturing warehouse on Mateo Street into the Arts District's fancy Urban Radish market (check out renderings above and below). According to a press release, "The architectural vision for Urban Radish, which is the first specialty grocery store in the neighborhood, was to create a space that artfully displays the seasons best locally sourced fresh produce and high quality meats and seafood while encouraging social interaction." The market will leave the current metal siding, as well as the buildings huge chipmunk mural (by Peter Roa), in place, but add an outdoor seating area and native landscaping. The market is set to open in March 2013. [Curbed Inbox]

SANTA MONICA: For the first time ever, the Santa Monica Pier will get a "Music Curator team" to program the Twilight Concert Series and other music events on the Pier, and it's a good one: Echo/Echoplex/Spaceland Productions founder Mitchell Frank and concert producer Martin Fleischmann, who's done time at the Hollywood Bowl. The Pier is creating a whole curator series, with pros also overseeing programming in art, film, education, and "active lifestyle," whatever that is. [Curbed Inbox]
