Even with a recently-reelected congressman fighting it tooth and nail, the $400 million federal courthouse planned for a long-barren plot at First and Broadway looks to be moving right along, reports The Downtown News. An architect (among four shortlisted) will likely be chosen next week, according to a spokesperson for the federal General Services Administration, the agency overseeing the project. Plans are still on to open the courthouse, and fill a huge gaping void in the Civic Center, by 2016. Plans to have a developer take over the old Spring Street courthouse, to be vacated when the new courthouse opens, in exchange for building another structure at First and Broadway is less certain.
