The long terrible nightmare of rich misanthropes living below the Hollywood sign caused by the new Apple maps in iOS5 may finally be over -- for the moment. Tom LaBonge has announced that the issue with the new maps sending tourists onto residential streets to the traditional viewing spot has been resolved. Via the LaBonge newsletter: "At the insistence of the office of Councilmember Tom LaBonge as well as local residents, Apple has fixed its new mapping software to provide more accurate driving directions to the Hollywood Sign. Formerly, iPhone directions to the Hollywood Sign led users up non-public roads, leaving them dead-ended. Current directions now lead iPhone users to Griffith Observatory, one of the two viewing locations endorsed by the Hollywood Sign Trust."
