There will be no development on El Sereno's Elephant Hill--LAist reports that the City Council has just "voted to guarantee protection of 20 acres" of open space at the site (which is "crowned with walnut groves"). Monterey Hills Investors had been hoping to create a 24-house subdivision at the site, but after years of community objection, the city bought the land in 2009, then sold five acres to the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, which plans to create a walking trail. The city intends to use the space as a park. Locals are psyched about the preservation, since this area "lacks nearby parks and recreation facilities" and many use a road in the area for walking and running.
