The Civic Center's 12-acre Grand Park is here, completely here--the fourth and final section opened to the public this past weekend with a series of performances and some dancing on the side of City Hall. Take a tour of the first two sections here and the third section here. The Event Lawn, the section directly across Spring Street from City Hall, is the newest piece of the park, which runs northwest four blocks up to Grand Avenue--it includes a dog run, sure to be welcome in Downtown, an angular bathroom building, and a nice big lawn for official events. The park was designed by Rios Clementi Hale and funded by developer Related Cos. as a condition of its megadevelopment on Grand Avenue (which might finally break ground soon). The county intends for the Grand Park to be a major public space and there's all kinds of programming coming up (already the park served as a hub for Sunday's CicLAvia).
