Just how long-held is the long-held tradition of leaving Dodger Stadium early to beat traffic? Turns out it's been around since literally day one. The day before the stadium's first game on April 10, 1962, LAPD Chief William Parker told LA "It will take two hours to get into Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine and two hours to get out" (and he said to avoid the Academy Road entrance). A couple days later Parker told the LA Times: "75 percent of the spectators left before the ninth inning and this was motivated by a desire to avoid a tieup." [LAObserved, image via RaymondYu]
