The MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House is holding its first ever Day of the Dead auction, and they're not selling off some old junk that was lying around (although if they were, it'd be old Rudolph Schindler junk, so...)--they're calling the event Light My Way, Stranger and have asked several local architects and artists to design light fixtures: the contributors have "conceived, designed, produced, and donated these objects specifically for the MAK Center's auction," according to a press release. The MAK got lots of good ones too: the list of contributors includes Ball-Nogues, Bestor Architecture, Eric Owen Moss, Coop Himmelb(l)au, Hodgetts & Fung, Escher GuneWardena, and on and on. They're holding a formal auction this Friday at Schindler's Fitzpatrick-Leland House in Laurel Canyon, with experimental chamber music by LA Fog and professional auctioneering by Peter Loughrey of LA Modern Auctions (get your not-so-cheap tickets here) or you can bid online.
