The Palos Verdes Peninsula finally has an off-leash dog park! It's tiny and temporary, but they're used to being treated like dogs, right? Work is now underway at a half-acre spot in Rancho Palos Verdes's Point Vicente Park/Civic Center, reports the Daily Breeze--it'll have all the standard dog park fare, including separate areas for big and small dogs, water stations, seating, wood chip ground cover, and double-gate entrances. The park will probably soft-open in a few weeks "without a lot of fanfare." This dog park is just a stop-gap while locals and officials push for a much larger site on top of the old Palos Verdes Landfill in Rolling Hills Estates. The county owns the land, though, and won't allow a dog park there until their first landfill conversion has been operating for a year (the La Crescenta site just opened this month). Rancho Palos Verdes had also tried to create a dog beach below Trump National Golf Club, but that plan had some powerful opponents (Trump). The closest dog parks right now are in Redondo Beach and San Pedro.
