El Monte Airport RedevelopmentWatch

New, 9 comments

The San Gabriel Valley used to be littered with little regional airports, but now there's only one left: "tiny El Monte Airport sees no commercial use and is hardly known outside the private pilot community." Local politicians seem interested in redeveloping the site--"El Monte officials at one point discussed the possibility of building a sports complex on the site. There have also been suggestions of a park or soccer fields"--and so supporters are hoping for a name change, to something with more regional appeal, like San Gabriel Valley Airport. [LAT, image via]
