WEST HOLLYWOOD: The corner of Melrose Avenue and Norwich Drive will be temporarily pleasant-ed up this weekend as WeHo's Long Range & Mobility Planning Division hosts an open house and demonstration of its work on the streetscape master plan for the Avenues District. They'll be "transforming a corner of Melrose Avenue into an inviting space, one that will demonstrate how the area will be converted to pedestrian space as part of the proposed Avenues project." Visitors will also be able to check out the plan and provide feedback. They'll be there Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. [Curbed Inbox]
PALM SPRINGS: Palm Springs Modernism Week, the annual winter architecture celebration, is kicking off the mid-century fetishism early this year with the launch of #ModernismProject, a bimonthly photo challenge: they'll provide a "challenge" and participants enter via Instagram photo (there'll be special guest judges; the winner for each category will get tickets to Modernism Week or something from Modshop). Challenge number one is #architecture: "capture images of any inspiring built structures that exhibit the tenets of modernism - function and utility, abstract beauty, sculptural form, symbolism, honesty in materials, use of modern materials and technology."
