Quetzal Flores, lead singer of Mexican-Afro-Cuban rock unit Quetzal, shared his feelings on the changing nature of Highland Park in an LA Weekly profile yesterday. The homegrown musician says the gentrification of HP is a "perfect example of corporate greed...Rather than revitalize what's here and make it better for the people living here, rents are raised, property values go up and it forces the people who have been here to move" (he doesn't explain the "corporate" part). He says that Quetzal's new album, Imaginaries, is a response to that. [LA Weekly]
