MALIBU: The Malibu planning commission didn't make any decisions last night about that seven year old Bart Prince-designed house that the owners are itching to tear down (they want to make room for a new Spanish-style house). Frank Angel, a lawyer representing neighbors Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Nancy Mack tells us via email "They continued the hearing for planning staff to report back on whether this project could trigger a domino effect on ocean views." He says there was "not a peep" about the project getting a review under the California Environmental Quality Act due to its significant architecture. According to the Malibu Times, Don Rickles, Sean Penn, and fell Peppers Anthony Kiedis and Flea have also opposed the hedge funder's plans. [Curbed Inbox/Malibu Times]
HOLLYWOOD/WEST HOLLYWOOD/THE VALLEY: The City Council passed a motion today asking the Department of Building and Safety "to establish or modify any existing expedited permitting process" for people rebuilding after last week's Hollywood arson fires and Building and Safety GM Bud Ovrom says in a press release that the department "is ready to assist any individual whose structures have been impacted due to these fires." More than 50 fires caused more than $3 million damages during the arson spree. [Curbed Inbox]
