HOLLYWOOD: A tipster sends in this photo and writes: "About a week ago work was started on the Galaxy Hotel off Vine just south of Santa Monica Blvd. What can you tell me about the plans for this site?" Well, we can tell this tipster that the building will be turned into supportive, permanent housing for mentally ill homeless people, with a groundfloor cafe that'll be open to the public. ARTS DISTRICT: What's the word at the Arts District condos formerly known as the Barn Lofts? A rep tells us there have been eight move-ins at 940 East 2nd Street so far and that the project "is on-track to be 1/3 sold out by the end of the week" (it has 38 units). The building also recently won an Adaptive Reuse/Renovation Honor Award from the Long Beach/South Bay chapter of the American Institute of Architects (architects Rockefeller Partners are based in El Segundo). 940 East 2nd was built in 1906 and once served as a sugar beet warehouse.
