1930s Fixer in Hyde Park Asking $299K

New, 21 comments

At first glance, this 1933 Spanish-style house located a few blocks east of La Brea in Hyde Park seemed rather promising, what with its elaborate fireplace, hardwood floors, vintage tile, crown molding, and built-ins. Then, we got past the first few photos in the gallery, and...Oh dear. Turns out it's actually a bit of a shambles, to put it politely. And yet, despite the wrack and ruin, it's not hard to see the lovely house it once was, and perhaps could be once again. Sited on a 6,076 square foot lot, it features three bedrooms, two baths, a formal dining room, original hardware, a "large bonus room," and detached, two-car garage. A probate sale, it's listed at $299,000.
