Did you know that Hollywood is the only neighborhood in LA that has official borders (Beverly Hills/the Hollywood Hills/Hyperion/Melrose)? And did you know it's because Culver City was acting like a total jerk back in the thirties? The Atlantic Cities recaps a paper on the dispute by Stephanie Frank, a planning and development grad student at USC--CC "adopted a municipal seal with the words 'The Heart of Screenland' festooned across the center" and tried to nab the slogan "Culver City, Where Hollywood Movies Are Made." A Chamber of Commerce board member even raised the idea of changing the city's name to Hollywood. Check it out, but spoiler: the whole thing ends with a gilded coach, four white horses, and a ceremony at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. [The Atlantic Cities]
