The Melrose Village Blog has a bunch of photos of the progress at Fairfax's Poinsettia Park, which has been undergoing a $1 million facelift since last summer. New amenities at the park include exercise equipment, a playground, jogging path, gym floor, reconfigured basketball courts, walking paths, benches, and grass, dugouts, and bleachers for the softball fields. The last piece of the improvement project--an 800 square foot community room adjacent to the gym--is still under construction. Back in 2008, Poinsettia Park was the site of a grisly murder and the neighborhood started mobilizing to make the area safer.
