Our river's on a roll lately--today Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar visited North Atwater Park to officially announce that the LA River has been selected for the America's Great Outdoors initiatives and has been designated an Urban Waters Federal Partnership site. Sounds great! What's it mean? "With these designations the Glendale Narrows, a 9 mile stretch of the Los Angeles River, will be reviewed through a federal partnership with 11 agencies, including the Interior Department, to build parks, restore wildlife, and improve water quality." It'll also "open up opportunities for funding." [KCET]
