Last year, Pasadena got its mitts on so-called "Big Belly" trash cans--solar-powered receptacles that compact garbage so they can hold four to five times as much refuse as regular trash cans--and now Echo Park is getting one. The northeast corner of Echo Park Ave. and Sunset will receive a Big Belly on Wednesday, reports Echo Park Patch. Eastsider LA adds that the units cost about $4,000 but can prove worthwhile by requiring fewer garbage pickups and keeping overflowing trash from sullying city streets. [Patch/Eastsider LA]
