Gastropubs and Fancy Markets Downtown, Gluten-Free Wonderland in Thousand Oaks, Upscale Lunches on Melrose

DOWNTOWN: Everyone was sad over the recent closing of the Angelique Cafe, which set up shop near the Fashion District long before Downtown was an eater's paradise. Portland-transplant/Tasting Kitchen rock star Casey Lane is already working on a gastropub that will fill the odd triangular space, hoping to open on New Year's Eve. Lane also has plans for a new restaurant next to the Tasting Kitchen in Venice.

DOWNTOWN: Can Downtown support two Bottega Louies? A 6,000 square foot restaurant and marketplace called Fuse is opening at Main and Seventh in November and Eater describes it as similar to Louie and Joan's on Third, with a French-Asian menu.

THOUSAND OAKS: A gluten-free bakery and market opens on Monday in Thousand Oaks. Nina Burr's Good Habit Foods (Burr is a personal chef for Hollywood-types) sounds like a nice change for the area, though, strangely for a bakery, it doesn't open until 10 am.

FAIRFAX: The Marcona Mediterranean Sandwich Shop could open on October 15 at Melrose and Martel should the permitting process go smoothly. The sandwiches sounds deliciously high-end, e.g. Lomo Spiced Pork Cheek and Spiced Spanish Tuna.
